Replace a Cracked Sewer Pipe (Before It Costs You)
Cracked sewer pipe. Forty-dollar part. Twenty-minute job. Or — a thousand-dollar shop bill. Your call.
Most RV sewer pipes are three-inch ABS. They crack from road vibration, freeze damage, or just age. Mine cracked at a slip-joint last spring.
Step one — cut the cracked section out with a hacksaw or pipe cutter. Two inches past the crack on each side. Step two — measure, dry-fit a replacement piece with a coupling on each end. Step three — primer, ABS cement, twist into place. Cures in two minutes.
If you've never done plumbing work — this is the easiest plumbing on Earth. No water pressure in these pipes. Just gravity. The worst that happens if you mess up — you redo it.
Wear gloves. Wear a mask if you've used the system recently. And appreciate that the dealer charges nine hundred for this exact repair. Tomorrow — Independence Day showdown. Follow.
