Is an RV’s Grosse Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) a Scam?

Episode 9️⃣5️⃣ Another scam by the manufacturers! Of course this information is disclosed to you before you buy it, but come on it’s never a reasonable number, unless maybe you’re in a class A diesel motorhome. Then they say it sleeps 8! Well how are you supposed to bring a reasonable amount of items for 8 people, even four people, with such little cargo capacity. Two thousand pounds might sound like a lot but when you think about it, it adds up fast! Pots, pans, clothes, blankets, pantry items, camping gear, shoes, toiletries, books, computers, even blankets and rugs can be heavy, think about what the weight of items in your fridge adds up to, and what if you want to boondock and need to travel with a full tank of fresh water? Your black tank usually always has some water in it.

Now think about any upgrades you might want to do, add a washer/dryer, solar panels, bigger battery bank, upgraded mattresses tend to mean heavier mattresses and don’t forget upgrading all the crappy stuff the falls apart usually means opting for something stronger – and heavier – than the plastic crap they use. Sure seems to me that they use this cheap, plastic crap and tiny screws to keep the weight down in general so it can weight in less than it should if it were built properly. Even if you’re not a fulltimer, the numbers are usually unreasonable!
