Soft Floor Fix Walk-Through

Soft floor caught early. DIY repair. Eighty bucks, four hours, save yourself the four-thousand shop bill. Here's how.

Step one — confirm the delamination is between the floor finish and the subfloor, not full subfloor rot. Drill a small test hole. If the wood underneath is dry, you can save it.

Step two — drill injection holes in a grid pattern every six inches. Pencil-sized. In the soft area only.

Step three — inject expanding polyurethane construction glue into each hole. PL Premium or Loctite PL Polyurethane. Slow even injection. Let it foam.

Step four — weigh the area down with sandbags or heavy buckets for 24 hours. The expanding glue bonds the layers back together as it cures.

After cure, plug the holes with wood filler matching your floor color. Done.

If the wood underneath is rotten — you can't save it with glue. That's a full subfloor replacement. Different video.

The bottom line
