Weight Distribution — Most RVers Get This Wrong
Half the truck-and-trailer rigs on the road right now have their weight distribution wrong. Mine was wrong for two years. Here's how to check yours in five minutes.
Weight distribution hitch — these bars transfer some of the tongue weight from your truck's rear axle to the front axle. So your truck doesn't sag. So you don't get sway.
Step one — unhitched, measure the height of each wheel well of your truck. Front and back. Write the numbers down.
Step two — hitch up. Bars on. Now measure again. Front wheel well should drop by about half the rear wheel well's drop. Half. If your front didn't drop at all — bars too loose. If it dropped more than the rear — bars too tight.
Misadjusted bars cause sway. Sway causes blowouts. Blowouts cause fatalities. This is the most ignored ten-minute fix in towing.
Comment if you've never checked your WD setup. I want to know how many of us are out here towing wrong.
